The Community Development Department consists of four divisions responsible for the coordinating and regulating the planning, development, appearance, and safety of “privately owned property and buildings.” The four divisions in the Department are:
Building Division Responsible for the enforcing of building codes relative to new construction, additions, remodeling and interior renovation of residential, commercial, and industrial property; including accepting and processing building permit applications, reviewing plans, and conducting inspections. Also responsible for condemnation and demolition of unsafe structures.
Responsible for reviewing all development (and redevelopment) for compliance with the Zoning Code, Comprehensive Plan, and Community Redevelopment Area Plan. Responsible for providing recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board and City Commission regarding rezoning requests, land use plan amendments, site plans, plats, variance and special exception requests. Responsible for periodically updating the zoning code and comprehensive plan pursuant to State Law and as directed by the City Commission. Serves as staff support to the Green Advisory Board, Airport Advisory Board, Planning and Zoning Advisory Board and City Commission.
Code Compliance Unit Division
Dania Beach Code Compliance Unit is responsible for promoting compliance of city ordinances through education and enforcement. Striving to assure the safety and quality of life for the residents as well as enhancement of the community.
