The Community Development Department consists of two divisions responsible for the coordinating and regulating the planning, development, appearance, and safety of “privately owned property and buildings.” The two divisions in the Department are:
Responsible for the enforcing of building codes relative to new construction, additions, remodeling and interior renovation of residential, commercial, and industrial property; including accepting and processing building permit applications, reviewing plans, and conducting inspections. Also responsible for condemnation and demolition of unsafe structures. You may schedule an inspection by leaving a message at 954-924-6805 x3709.
Planning and Zoning Division:
Responsible for reviewing proposed townhouse, apartment, commercial, and industrial development (and redevelopment) for compliance with the Zoning Code, Comprehensive Plan, and Community Redevelopment Area Plan. Responsible providing recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board and City Commission regarding rezoning requests, land use plan amendments, site plans, plats, variance and special exception requests, and special event requests. Responsible for periodically updating the zoning code and comprehensive plan pursuant to State Law and as directed by the City Commission. Serves as staff support to the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board and City Commission.
