Water will Remain Safe to Drink The City of Dania Beach Public Services Department will begin its Annual Water Distribution Flushing Program on Sunday, July 24, 2022. This flushing process will continue citywide through Sunday August 14, 2022.
The Annual Water Distribution Flushing Program is used to rid the water distribution pipelines of any accumulated sediments. The hydrant flushing may temporarily cause cloudy or discolored water, which should settle and clear within a few hours after flushing. The cloudiness is due to the temporary disturbance of sediments in the pipelines and it is not harmful or hazardous.
Typically flushing will take place at any time during day or evening hours. Residents and business owners may see fire hydrants running in their neighborhoods, which is part of this annual maintenance process. During the distribution flushing period, the Water Treatment Plant will temporarily change its method of disinfection from chloramines to free chlorination. During this time, residents may notice a change in the color and/or taste of the water during this time.
PLEASE NOTE: Businesses and residents with fish and shellfish holding tanks and medical facilities that use kidney dialysis machines are advised that regular methods for testing and removing chloramines will not be effective during the flushing period. In these cases, It will be necessary to test the water and adjust free chlorine, if needed.
